Family Days Out

Even though it’s winter, that still shouldn’t stop you getting out and about with all the family. As long as you wrap up warm, or simply head for an indoor attraction, there’s loads of entertainment and excitement to be had up and down the country, especially for the kids.

Part of the fun is deciding where to go, so we at Soreen are joining in by giving you a few suggestions to think about. You’ll find plenty more on the internet, so get searching. And remember, because it’s winter, some of these places may have restricted opening times and attractions so check them out before you go.

These are our favourites, and we hope that one or more of then will soon become yours –

South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Dalton-in-Furness

The kids will go wild for this place. There are creatures, critters and insects of every size and description, from big jungle cats to slippery snakes, including great ‘hands on’ stuff like helping to feed the giraffes and the penguins. Enthralling, educational and fascinating all at the same time.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, The Trafford Centre, Manchester

This is like jumping into the biggest box of LEGO bricks ever, which means tons of fun for kids of all ages and Mum and Dad too. There’s rides, movies, displays and all sorts of LEGO related activities, so never a dull moment. In fact, you’ll find the excitement is building, all day long.

The MAD Museum, Stratford Upon Avon

A museum with a highly unusual difference, promising a unique mixture of science, art and wacky inventions, that’s ideal for all the family. Explore, discover, touch and experience two floors packed with quirky contraptions, weird machines and wonderful ideas.

SEA LIFE Brighton, Sussex

The under water adventure that kids will be over the moon about. From getting up close and personal with sharks, squids and stingrays, to touching crabs and starfish in the interactive rockpool. Best of all, along with this particular aquarium in Brighton, there are lots of other brilliant SEA LIFE centres throughout the UK.

Great North Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne

Described as ‘the world under one roof’ this wonderful, multi-themed combination of natural science, different cultures, geology, archaeology and more, offers a fresh fascination at every turn. Ideal for both younger and older kids this is a day of discovery they’ll never forget.

World of Wings, Cumbermauld, Scotland

As you can probably guess, this centre is all about birds and it’ll take longer than a flying visit to see them all. Birds of prey are the main attraction, including Eagles, Owls, Hawks, Falcons and Vultures and you can view them all at close quarters, so don’t forget your camera.

London Dungeon, Westminster, Greater London

Apart from very young children, this is scary fun for all ages. Fully authentic sets, stunning special effects and dramatic live performances, all combine to bring you history’s horrible bits in a way that will chill you and thrill you, big style.

So there you go, a few ideas for a great family day out from Soreen.

And because all of these places are to sure to excite and exhaust the kids in equal measure, it might be a good idea to take some Soreen squidgy energy  with you, to perk them up and keep them going. Our snack packs of two slices of ready spread Fruity Malt Loaf are perfect fuel for flagging kids and our handy and very tasty Lunchbox Loaves will do the trick too.
