And just so you know, Crossfit is a multi-discipline fitness regime involving weightlifting, gymnastics, calisthenics and other activities and is aimed at providing all-body benefit across stamina, strength, agility, balance, and cardiovascular. Phew!
Career highlight & goal
Samantha’s career highlight so far has been as a finalist at the Italian Throwdown 2014 and she is currently working towards the British Championships, described as ‘the ultimate test of the fittest Brits’. Her career goal is to be amongst the top 10 female athletes in Europe within just 18 months and judging by her performance so far, she’s well on her way to achieving this.
It comes as no surprise that Samantha trains incredibly hard to maintain her almost superhuman level of fitness. In her own words: “Typical Crossfitters train 2 days on and 1 day off then 3 days on and one day off and most of my sessions take about 2 ½ hours to complete with a good warm up and cool down”.
Her favourite exercise
An average session for Samantha includes Olympic Lifting and Increased Strength exercises along with metabolic conditioning and gymnastic skills. Her favourite exercise is Burpees, which is what attracted her to Crossfit in the first place.
In 2013 she suffered a tear in her shoulder, but even that couldn’t keep her out of the gym. “I was lucky enough to have a coach, Sam Harvey, who supported me and helped me get where I am today.”
A quick fuel boost
As you can imagine, along with doing all the right exercises, Samantha also needs to eat and drink all the right things too. And in this area we’re very happy to report that she often uses energy-rich Soreen snacks as a quick and handy fuel boost in between Crossfit sessions.
