Enjoying autumn on two wheels

Autumn is here, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop cycling, far from it. Follow our simple tips, and soon you’ll discover that cycling in autumn is just as much fun as it is in summer.

First off, let’s talk wardrobe. As we know the great British weather can be unpredictable so being prepared is key. Colder weather means layers, and lots of them. It’s important to have a wind and waterproof jacket too, and don’t be afraid to throw on a snazzy one, visibility is key, so the brighter the better. Check out the Laura Kenny page for her top clothing tips, she never forgets a pair of gloves when going on a ride.

Another way to keep up your riding during the colder months is to ride with a friend. So, if you’re cycling to relax in the evening, why not meet a friend and plan a route together? Buddying up always keeps you motivated and let’s not forget two sets of bike lights are brighter than one.

Another thing to check, is our bikes themselves. Get someone in the know to give it a look over or take it to a bike shop, like Halfords. Make sure your tires are pumped to the correct pressure and always check your brakes are working properly before a ride.

Finally, make sure your fuel levels don’t run low. It’s a good idea to eat 2-3 hours before setting out and take portable energy snacks like Malt Loaf Bar along to keep your energy levels up. Laura Kenny’s favourite.

Winter awaits! Crisp, sharp mornings and moody, long nights that are perfect for enjoying on two wheels. So, get out there and make the most of Autumn cycling.
