Soreens’ back to School Be Safe, Be Seen Campaign
With the dark nights drawing it is important to be seen when riding your bike so that other road users know you are there.
Soreen along with Chris Hoy are promoting safer cycling in schools this week at Sale Grammar and Well acre high school in the North West.
Chris Hoy, current Olympic, World and Commonwealth Kilo Sprint Champion first started cycling when he was just seven years old. Twenty-three years later and a cycling superstar there’s not much he doesn’t know about cycling.
He says: “Cycling is a great way to get to school. It’s good for the environment and it keeps you healthy. But it is important to know a few simple rules to keep safe.”
Chris has joined forces with CSEF – the children’s safety education foundation – to come up the following top tips.
- Make sure your bike is the right size, so that you can sit on the saddle whilst both feet are touching the ground
- Always wear a helmet whilst cycling – it will protect your head if you fall
- Make sure the helmet does not cover your eyes and ears
- Always wear bright clothing and some sort of reflective gear, such as a safety sash
- When you’re cycling keep your fingers on the brake levers – ready to act quickly if needed
- Plan your trips and always choose the safest route
- If you cycle at night you bike must have front and rear lights and a red rear reflector
- Use a bike carrier. Never carry anything on the handlebars
- Join your local cycle training scheme and learn how to cycle safely
